IN ARCADIA XXI: AN ART EXHIBITION BY ELEONORA BARNIA

WarmtHub, the art and cultural space that transforms the lobby of Warmthotel Rome into an exhibition venue, presents “IN ARCADIA XXI”, a solo exhibition by Eleonora Barnia, on view at Warmthotel, Via Giuseppe Prezzolini 5 – 00143 Rome (EUR), daily from 10:00 to 22:00 until 31 January 2027.

The exhibition reinterprets the myth of Arcadia through a contemporary lens, presenting it as a symbolic construction of an ideal elsewhere.

In this vision, Arcadia takes shape as a suspended “non-place,” where nature becomes benevolent, order prevails over chaos, and the human being rediscovers a possible harmony with the cosmos. Nature is not depicted in a botanical sense, but rather as an emotional scenography—an inner space where diffused light and rarefied atmospheres evoke the timeless stillness of the locus amoenus.

The figures, immersed in a contemplative and meditative dimension, emerge from the pictorial surface as hieratic presences—true hierophanies. Though seemingly isolated, they establish a silent dialogue with one another, contributing to the solemn and suspended tone of the work.

The formal research unfolds through the recovery of classical canons, translated into a rigorous composition where the harmony of forms and the clarity of line evoke an ideal of perfection. In this sense, painting becomes a response to the anxieties of the present, offering a visual and symbolic alternative to contemporary disorder.

“In Arcadia XXI” is inhabited by a dense and eloquent silence: the figures appear suspended in an eternal instant, amplified by the presence of gold—an element that removes the scene from the flow of time and opens it to pure contemplation.

The entire project revolves around the concept of a “nostalgia for the future,” in which classical language becomes a tool to remind the viewer that beauty and harmony are not merely aesthetic values, but necessary refuges within the human experience.

Within this formal balance, passions—though restrained—persist as a vital tension, evoking an ideal of a still and immutable world, where grace asserts itself as a form of resistance to the frenzy of the present.

With “In Arcadia XXI,” WarmtHub reaffirms its vocation as a meeting place between art, hospitality, and contemporary reflection, offering guests and visitors an experience that goes beyond aesthetic enjoyment, opening instead to a more intimate and meditative dimension.

BIO

Eleonora Barnia was born in Rome in 1978. After completing her artistic high school diploma, she graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts. Her post-academic training, begun in 2002, along with her work as an interior decorator in ateliers located in the Monti district and San Lorenzo in Rome, contributed to enriching her stylistic research. Since 2000, she has participated in art competitions and group painting exhibitions. She currently teaches art in secondary schools.

“My pictorial research is based on chromatic de-stratification, a process through which latent images—constantly awaiting emergence—come to the surface as silent, intimate evocations. Characterized by a two-dimensional form and the presence of gold—reduced to its essence—these works embody a reconciliation between ‘major’ and ‘minor’ arts.

Recognizable subjects and self-portraits are the central protagonists; however, they exist in spatial tension with white, resulting in monochrome or dichrome images that define a neoclassical concept of painting.

What emerges from each image—the authentic narrative—is the subjects’ passion for something seemingly ephemeral when considered in relation to the eternal; these are, therefore, necessary evocations.”
